FEED YOUR SOUL IN THE NEW YEAR!
This New Class begins on January 8th, 2019.

No experience necessary!

During these lessons, you will learn to create truly meaningful art pieces through the use of mixed media. You will discover and learn to develop your own imagery by experimenting with a variety of art techniques and media, realizing your own vision and direction:

Drawing techniques – charcoal, pencil, conte crayon, and oil pastels
Painting techniques – acrylics paints and mediums, water-color inks
Print-making techniques - demonstrated in conjunction with painting and drawing.
Other art techniques including photo transfers, skins, and textures
Color mixing and brushwork
We work with the highest quality artist materials, our base paint is GOLDEN acrylics.

Currently, ongoing Mixed Media Adult lessons are offered on:

Tuesdays 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. ( First class begins on January 8th, 2019

Wednesdays 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (WAITLIST)

Thursdays 10:00 p.m. - 1:00p.m. (WAITLIST)

Students are required to sign up for a group of eight three hour lessons for $375 + gst.

If you do not have your own artist quality art supplies you can pay a supply fee; $70/session. This does not include the substrates such as wood panels, paper (we work on wood because it is more stable) and more expensive supplies that we may require for some projects.

My philosophy is very much "go with the flow". I want you to feel relaxed and free to experiment with the processes and mediums while you are with me. I teach based on each of my students' individual needs. Because a high percentage of my students are long-term, I am constantly coming up with new projects to challenge and inspire. We do not do the same lessons so every eight week session is filled with new adventures!

Don't worry if you are "new" to creating art. Almost all of my students were when they started. In the supportive and encouraging environment of my studio at 1000 Parker Street, you will relax, be supported by your peers, experience a ton of amazing techniques and learn to express yourself through the transformative process of art.

My classes are acrylic based and we only use the highest quality artists materials including the best acrylic paint line, GOLDEN acrylics, so that we can produce the best possible work.

I also offer periodic workshops, workshops for outside groups and private lessons.

Stay in touch with my Events page for information on new classes or workshops coming up.

Testimonials

Sonya is an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher and it's obvious she wants the best for her students. The vast number of techniques she teaches are fun, stimulating and full of wonder. She has a natural way of creating community in her classes and I love them! I wish there were ten of me in the room!

Sarah Hoye - student since 2011

Sonya is truly a creative soul, who is always expanding her fascinating art practice through hours of work and creative research. She amazes me with her use of unconventional art materials such as old rusted metals, found objects and recycled items. She expertly applies them to her art and creates aesthetic and truly meaningful pieces. She is also highly capable using art media; she often uses a mixture of many media to create her vision.
